Cosplay Update

3 min read
Hello people! Long time no see!

I haven't stopped cosplaying, costuming or anything of the sort. Right now, I'm just recovering from the last three years of school. We had an amazing fashion show, and the costume group really shined this year compared to past events, so we were all very happy and proud of ourselves! It was an amazing experience.

As you've probably realized, I'm not active on DA anymore. I'm not sure why, but DA just lost a lot of interest to me, mainly because it is so hard for me to reach for other people on this platform. I'm done trying to make excuses about why I'm not being active; I simply don't use DA as I was before. Right now, it's more like a portfolio for my best pictures, and even then I'm not sure that I'll use it that often. That's why I recently moved to Facebook by creating my own page. I'm not trying to reach a state of fame; I just prefer how Facebook links me to my local cosplay community, and how easier it is to communicate with people to get feedback or share works in progress and knowledge in a visual manner. By reaching out to more people, I hope to broaden my horizons, meet new persons and gain more experiences. Here's a link: www.facebook.com/pages/Le-Lapi…

If you're wondering why I changed my nickname, it is because I am still trying to find an identity for myself. I though about my username on DA, and it honestly doesn't hold that much of a meaning to me anymore and is not very original. So I derived my nickname from "Tsukino Usagi" by translating "moon bunny" in my first language (french), which is "le lapin lunaire". It's probably not that original either, but because Sailor Moon means a lot to me, it only made sense for me to honour her in some way. I tried to find some other names that could fit, but more often than not it just sounded too childish or weird. So I'll keep nicknaming myself "Le Lapin Lunaire" on the web for a while longer and use my real name in competitions because it just sounds right to me.

As for my next project, I'm currently teaming up with derpcaro for a Tales of Zestiria duo for Otakuthon! We're testing the waters to see if we make a great team or not, and if it works well we'll continue cosplaying together. I'm also working on another group with some friends and some costume ideas for Costume Con 35!

Finally, I also want to thank the few of you who followed me for the last few years and supported my work. This means a lot to me, and now that I finished College, there is only room for me to continue growing. If you wish to continue following my work, I would invite you to take a look at my new page!

Again, to anyone who keeps looking at my page, thank you very much for your support. I'll still log in from time to time and perhaps post a few pics, but Facebook is now the best way to contact me.

Cheers!

G-Anime 2015!

3 min read
I didn't do anything really special for G-Anime 2015, but it was so much fun! Here's a quick recap of my weekend.

  • Friday
After finishing my main homework at school, I took the bus from Montreal to Ottawa. I'm pretty sure there were a few G-Anime folks on board aside from me! I didn't go to the con because I arrived very late. I wish I could have been to the Nostalgia Critic's Q&A.

  • Saturday
I ran around the con cosplaying as April O'Neil from TMNT 2012 along with my twin sister as Casey Jones. We even had tiny turtles with us! April is hands down the comfiest costume I've ever put together, and I'd love wearing it again to a Comic Con or on a sunday of a con anytime! A lot of costume part were recycled from things that I already owned, so I'm guessing that's why it was very nice to wear. We weren't asked pictures by a lot of people, but seeing as we were both dressed up as sunday-morning cartoon characters from the US at an anime con, we honestly didn't mind and just had fun together. I also had a lot of fun i the Gaming Room as opposed to the past years! I've played  bit of Super Smash Bros 64 (I hadn't touched it since I was 7 years old - it was still rentable at my local BlockBuster back then!) and Just Dance for the Xbox. Apparently, I was really into it!

Later that day, I offered my friend :iconderpcaro:, who was dressed up as Beat from Jetset Radio Future, to help her out in the masquerade's greenroom. I wasn't supposed to be there, but I ended up there none the less, and I was super happy because it's probably one of my favorite places to be in when I go to a con! I had seriously missed the masquerade's greenroom in the last year, and I was happy to be of some help to people if they requested it. I'm considering applying as a masquerade staff member for the next years if I don't participate in the contest myself!

Of course, I also met a lot of familiar faces! I was very happy to see my friends again.

Sadly,  I didn't take any pictures of April except for a few selfies - but I had so much fun on this day that I honestly don't care. I'll try to take some pictures in the future though!

  • Sunday
Nothing much happened on Sunday. I wasn't cosplaying since I had to go back to Montreal in the evening. I mainly shopped in the dealer's room and attended panels for the rest of the afternoon. I entered the con in the morning, and the next thing I knew, everything was over and I needed to return home. I just wish it hadn't ended this quickly!

Overall, G-Anime was once again a great breath of fresh air for me, and I feel ready to tackle the last few weeks of school to obtain my diploma! Again, I won't really be active on Deviantart, but if you're interested in seeing what our Final Fashion Show will look like or what kind of costumes I make there, you can check out my twitter page, twitter.com/LeLapinLunaire.

Hello! I just wanted to pass by and more or less apologize for my inactivity. I say more or less because I've barely looked at Deviantart in the past few months, and I honestly do not know when I'll be active again.

My last school semester has just began, and we're  starting preparations for our massive fashion show, Signature 2015.

For the last few months, I've been doing almost nothing but work my hardest, and I barely had time to make something for myself at all. So far, everything went well and I've managed to ace all my courses even though I had a few massive moral breakdowns. I also learned that I had a chronic autoimmune skin disease, which isn't as dramatic as it sounds, but still induced changes in my everyday life. For one, I now have to work my cosplays around how the disease acts, because I don't feel comfortable showing it and that it's pretty much unpredictable. I've fortunately managed to get it under control for now, but considering that it can be pretty nasty sometimes and that it will last for my lifetime, I though it was pertinent to mention that it affects the way I cosplay, especially concerning the outfits I choose to make and how and when I will wear them. I also have to take care of myself better. Anyhow, I won't let it hold my creativity back - I'll still be cosplaying, but in a more careful manner. I hope the few of you that read this journal entry will understand.

I am still attending G-Anime 2015! G-Anime always feels like a breath of fresh air to me and as a reminder of why I love cosplay and my nerdy community so much, so I won't be missing it. However, I haven't come up with anything complicated to wear this time. I went with a much simpler costume and incorporated a lot of recycled elements into it because I simply didn't have the time to make everything. Plus, it makes the outfit look a lot more real! I'm very excited to wear it at the con. I won't be revealing what it is right now because I keep forgetting to update this page. But one thing I can say is that it actually has almost nothing to do with anime or video games. If you see me, don't be afraid to say hello!

That's basically it. I still won't be active for a while, and I'm not exactly sure when I'll come back. When I do, I'll maybe try to make more of a name for myself, but I'm still not sure about that either. Graduating college will be a huge step in my life, and afterwards I'll have to think about getting my first job, maybe continue to study and soon enough getting my own apartment. I've also tough about taking ballet classes again, but we'll see about that.

As for Otakuthon, I also really want to go this year! This time however, I'll definitely attempt participating in the masquerade with the masters. At least I really want to make something great. No promises!

Hello! I just wanted to say that I am still alive. The autumn college semester started last  month and has been eating my time, so I want to share a bit of my Otakuthon 2014 experience before I forget to post it at all.

I also want to apologize in advance for any weird writing. I am sick at the moment, so some mistakes may have been made.

I've had a lot of fun at Otakuthon this year, but I haven't participated in any competitions of any kind, so I've spent my time quite differently.

On friday, I had a Rozen Maiden photoshoot in my Suigintou cosplay with other Rozen Maiden cosplayers! It was a great learning experience and I loved meeting new people. Our costumes were also very well-received by the crowd; it was the first time I was asked for so many selfies! I have no idea where any of those pictures went though. I also watched the World Cosplay Summit with friends, and it was an amazing experience overall. I'll definitely participate someday! I feel like I potentially have the skills to participate in this event, but I don't have enough time and money to spend in a competition of this scale yet. I don't have a partner either. I still want to try it out in the near future though!

I went to see the Baby, the Stars Shine Bright fashion show on Saturday and loved it. One of my friends was being a model for them and she really did a great job! She also managed to convince me to send my candidature to the fashion show the next time a lolita brand comes to Otakuthon. I spent the rest of the afternoon walking around with her. We both walked to the Crunchyroll booth, and apparently people wanted to see my costume, so I went in front of the screen and posed for a bit. Unfortunately, I didn't see any of the comments because I didn't have my glasses on. It was probably the first time I regretted not taking an appointment to be able to wear contact lenses.

I also went to see the masquerade by myself. The competition level was very impressive this year, and I was surprised to see how many skits were given in french. I'll try participating next year!

Sunday was a very relaxing day. I had decided to wear my Sailor Moon cosplay (or as I like to call her, "Gunner Moon"). I mainly went to a few panels and took pictures near the fountain with my sister. Very few people recognized me despite having the unmistakable Sailor Moon hairstyle; its source was probably too obscure for most Sailor Moon fans. Either way, I didn't care much because it let me do whatever I wanted without being stopped for pictures every minute (unlike Suigintou). I have shared a few pictures on Tumblr, but I'll try sharing them on deviant art as well.

In other words, Otakuthon was a lot of fun! The only thing I regret is not getting to see everyone.

As I said before, I won't be very active on Deviantart for the next few months, however I'll still be making personal projects when I'm not working on school projects. So far, my classmates and I have done full patterns and mock-ups for our "historical costuming" project, and we've also managed to submit a few designs for our next creative project. Why we aren't dead yet, we don't know, but we'll probably be zombies by the time the semester finishes. In other words, don't expect much activity from me - school is my first priority at the moment.

Hello, how have you been?

I'm sorry about the long hiatus; school has been crazy during the end of the semester (which has ended a while ago for me), and I find myself having difficulties to properly keep up with social networks. I'm just trying out things here and there to try what works and what doesn't for me. That being said, I haven't left deviant art yet! I find that it is a great platform to share my finished work with people. I'm now going to update quickly about Costume Con 32. Better late than never, right?

My mom, aunt and I arrived late at the hotel the night before friday so we could spend the whole weekend at the con. It was some sort of family trip for me and definitely a good break from all the school projects I had to give in advance right before the event.

I spent friday going to various panels. No costumes, no extravagances; just panels. I've learned a lot during that day and taken a lot of notes! One of my favourite panels was about paper mache, mainly because I almost always end up using this technique to make my props - it's cheap and can be very effective when you know how to use it well. I've learned a few tricks to better my paper mach skills!

Later during friday night, my mom, aunt and I wanted to go see the single pattern competition, which was held at the same time as the social party. At first I really didn't know what I was doing here; social parties aren't my thing. I have a hard time going trough a huge crowd of people, and I'm always akward when meeting people. Against all odds tough, I managed to make some new friends, and the party became a great experience that I would maybe be willing to try again (but seriously, I can be a real party-pooper sometimes). All ended well and it was overall a very fulfilling day.

On saturday, I've worn my Suigintou cosplay. Nothing much happened; I've again spent my whole day going to panels and meeting a few people I knew. I also went to the expositions the con has to offer and discussed with other cosplayers about cosplay tips and tricks! I love the local cosplay and costumes community; people are almost always willing to share their experiences with you, an I was eager to learn and share some of my tips as well! Later on saturday night, there was the Sci-Fi masquerade, which had around 80 entries if I remember well. There was also a TON of Frozen skits, which didn't really surprise me, but I was delighted to see that all of the Frozen cosplayer's presentations were different from each other. One of my favourite entries was "Optimus Time", which presented a crossover between Transformers and Back to The Future (I'm not really a fan of the latter, but I'm in for any great structural, transforming costumes!). There were also a ton of great costumes, and I would love to participate next time I go to Costume Con.

Sunday was overall a great day, which I again spent going to panels. I was originally supposed to enter the Future Fashion Folio, but didn't get the right to because I gave my entry too late - like a month too late. I didn't read the rules correctly and that's what I've gotten for it - but in the end it didn't matter and I still got to wear my original design all day! I've had to change a few things last minute to be able to wear it on time tough. But that's another story for when I'll get pictures of this costume!

Basically, if you saw a HUGE tea table walking around, that was me. I decided that if I was going to costume con, I might as well try an original idea, which was becoming a cute tea table. I've had a lot of people coming up to me and telling me how much they liked the idea - I've also had a few who though I was cosplaying something from Sakizo, which is a HUGE compliment, but I don't really feel comfortable being compared to such an amazing artist. A lot of credit also go to my mom and my aunt, who almost sewed all of the costume for me since school was constantly eating my time. I was responsible of the design and structure of the costume and they were able to make it happen just in time. Anyhow - I spent the day going to panels (and sitting with this HUGE thing isn't easy I tell you), but I had a lot of fun none the less.

Later at night was the historical masquerade, which had a lot of great entries! The research people do to get their costumes as accurate as possible is amazing. There were also a lot of great concepts, such as a Legend of Oz inspired group. I've had to remove my costume to go to the event tough because I was getting tired of having to sit on the ground and that there wasn't much space in the room for me to have this huge thing.

Then we've left the con on monday morning. I had to get back home as  early as I could because I had some other exams to take before officially starting my internship is with a theatre group.

Overall, Costume Con 32 was an AMAZING experience and I would love to go there again with my mother. I already ha a lot of ideas in my head - whether I'll make them or not is another story. I've also convinced my sisters to come with me next time; they were sure that it wasn't going to be their thing but apparently they've gained a lot of interest in it after seeing pictures! Next time I go, I'll bring more costumes with me and try to participate in some of the events. My mom's even considering going on a trip next year to catch Costume Con 33. One thing's for sure tough - we'll definitely go to Costume Con 35 if it really is in Toronto again!

To finish this entry, I know I don't update this page as often as I maybe should. But in the meantime, if you're interested in mere thoughts or short updates, I've decided to try using Twitter again. It works well for me so far! Here's a link to my profile page: twitter.com/LeLapinLunaire
